The new national number plate format began on 1st September 2001 and this format is available only to vehicles registered after that date.
Such vehicles can still display registrations from earlier periods if the owner so wishes as these would make the vehicle look older which is legally allowed. The letter Z may now be selected in the 3-random letters combination for the first time  giving you more choice than previous issues. Thus for example names like ALZ, ANZ, BAZ, CAZ, DAZ, DEZ, DYZ, KAZ, LAZ, LEZ, MAZ, YAZ, ZAK, ZEB,  ZOE etc. are now available. This new format gives some interesting registration combinations and some examples follow to spark your imagination. (Click here for more examples)

STEP 1:   PICK 2 LETTERS FROM THE TABLES BELOW

 Use for example, your initials or your partner's initials 

You will see that some 2-letter combinations spell useful words, abbreviations, or names, and have phonetic sounds that say 2 words egs CU = see you, SX51= SEXY. We have put the most obvious examples in green boxes (click here for more ideas)
